Future Careers at CHW
St. Mary’s Medical Center is a flagship teaching hospital for Catholic Healthcare West (“CHW”), a system of hospitals and clinics with a long history of caring for the sick, poor, and medically disadvantaged. CHW is the leading not-for-profit healthcare system in the western United States and the fifth-largest system in the country. It includes 42 hospitals with nearly 10,000 beds, more than 38,000 employees, and nearly 9,000 active medical staff located throughout California, Arizona and Nevada. CHW looks to its residency programs as a means to attract skilled internists for its hospitals. We encourage our graduates to look at residency training at St. Mary’s as the beginning of a rewarding career in medicine in the CHW family of hospitals and affiliated practices and clinics.
St. Mary’s is proud to be a part of the large and vigorous health care network of Catholic Healthcare West. Through CHW, St. Mary’s and its affiliated institutions are working to design an integrated health care system linked through information networks, capable of providing state-of-the-art care anywhere throughout the states of California, Arizona, and Nevada. The 10 teaching hospitals in the CHW system collaborate by sharing educational expertise, learning opportunities, and networks for employment opportunities following graduation.
Each year several of our graduates become members of the medical staff at St. Mary’s. The hospital actively seeks to recruit and retain our graduates; salary guarantees in the form of forgivable loans and support for practice overhead are available to our recent graduates who choose to start- or join- a practice with us. We also provide information on existing practices that are looking to expand, both at St. Mary’s and at sister hospitals in the region.
As a graduate of St. Mary’s, you can be virtually assured of finding employment in the Bay Area!
